Measure for Measure (M4M) is seeking an Assistant Conductor who will work in partnership with the Conductor to further the ensemble’s mission. M4M is an auditioned, tenor-bass community chorus of more than 70 members, based in Ann Arbor, celebrating their 37th season, and performing throughout southeast Michigan. Weekly rehearsals are held on Sunday, from 6:30-9:00pm, at St. Luke’s of Ann Arbor, September through May. We perform six to eight concerts each season.
OBJECTIVE
Employ an Assistant Conductor who will have an opportunity to work closely with the Conductor, board, and choristers; to assist the Conductor in the execution of his duties; to facilitate the operation of the choir; to prepare the Assistant Conductor for a job as a future community chorus artistic director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend and sing in all rehearsals and performances of M4M and Note By Note, a chamber group.
Lead sectionals as necessary, with the possibility of conducting the full ensemble in concert.
Meet with the Conductor to plan and discuss strategies for continued musical development of the singers.
Work closely with the Conductor in the development of the organization.
Develop professional and cooperative relationships with M4M members and board.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Enrollment in or completion of a bachelors and/or masters in vocal music education or choral conducting.
Experience in group vocal technique and choral leadership.
COMPENSATION
Independent contractor agreement, 12-month term (July-June) and 10-month pay schedule (September-June).
Part-time position, approximately 3 hours per week.
Honorarium is provided, commensurate with experience.
